Many of the characters appearing on the Death Star bridge went nameless in the films. The Expanded Universe often fills these gaps, including the story of the off duty TIE pilot. The Decipher card series and Star Wars Character Encyclopedia name several of these crew members as TIE pilots, providing both back story and visual reference for them.
One of the great things about this costume is that its not only easy to put on, very comfortable to wear but if you get tired of wearing the armor, simply take off the helmet, and chest armor, put on your Imperial Officer Hat and now you are a Tie Pilot Reserve.
